{"id":23,"date":"2021-12-06T12:47:26","date_gmt":"2021-12-06T12:47:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dis.hosting.acm.org\/2022\/?page_id=23"},"modified":"2022-04-05T09:40:46","modified_gmt":"2022-04-05T09:40:46","slug":"doctoral-consortium","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/dis.acm.org\/2022\/doctoral-consortium\/","title":{"rendered":"Doctoral Consortium"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The DIS 2022 Doctoral Consortium provides current doctoral candidates unique opportunities to present their projects to receive feedback from, and engage in exchanges with researchers and peers in design-related fields from around the world, in a stimulating, open, and safe environment.<\/p>\n<h3>Important dates<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Doctoral Consortium submission deadline: 14 March AoE<\/li>\n<li>Doctoral Consortium notifications: 11 April<\/li>\n<li>Publication ready deadline: 29 April AoE<\/li>\n<li>Doctoral Program: 13-17 June, online (Date TBC)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You must be enrolled in a discipline that is related to \u201cDesigning Interactive or Intelligent Systems\u201d as a doctoral candidate at the time of submitting your application and at the time of the conference. You will get most value from attending if you already possess a clear direction for your thesis but have not yet finished your research. However, people at other stages may be considered. We are expecting to accept up to 10-12 candidates.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the Doctoral Consortium, we invite a broad range of design-oriented submissions, including but not exclusively to the conference theme \u201cDigital Wellbeing\u201d.<\/p>\n<h3>Preparing and Submitting<\/h3>\n<p>Submissions must be done through the <a href=\"https:\/\/new.precisionconference.com\/\">Precision Conference submission system (PCS)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Document 1: PhD Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The first document should be a four-page research description (excluding references). Use the <a href=\"https:\/\/chi2022.acm.org\/for-authors\/presenting\/papers\/chi-publication-formats\/\">ACM Master Article Submission Templates<\/a> (single column) template and include the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your name, Advisor(s) name(s), and the university where you are conducting your doctoral work<\/li>\n<li>Context and motivation for your research<\/li>\n<li>Specific research objectives, goals or questions<\/li>\n<li>Research progress to date<\/li>\n<li>Research approach, methods and rationale<\/li>\n<li>Outputs and contributions to date<\/li>\n<li>Dissertation status and long-term goals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Document 2: Supporting Materials<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The supporting document should include the following (you may format the documents as you see fitting):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A short CV (max 1 page)<\/li>\n<li>A list of three key readings that have influenced your PhD, with a short description \u2028for each reading (max 1 page)<\/li>\n<li>A brief statement of support from your PhD supervisor, which includes a statement of where you are in your PhD process (max 100 words)<\/li>\n<li>Tell us briefly what you hope to get out of the doctoral consortium experience. Participation in the Doctoral Consortium will be limited to candidates who have been accepted into the Consortium.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Registration<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you are accepted to the Doctoral Consortium, we will send you registration instructions. Participation in the Doctoral Consortium is free of charge to the invited participants.
