The Pittsburgh Airport Authority provides an interactive map to see non-stop flights to Pittsburgh. For details of accessible facilities and other services available at the Pittsburgh International Airport, see the pages for Accessibility and Wheelchair Services.

Getting from the Airport to Carnegie Mellon / Hotels

Carnegie Mellon and local hotels in Pittsburg can most easily be reached by car from the airport. It typically takes anywhere from 25-60 minutes, depending on traffic. You can rent cars at the Pittsburgh airport, or take one of the taxis (called zTrip) waiting outside Door 6. You can also use the Uber or Lyft apps to call a car. If you call one of these services, you will meet your driver outside Door 4 near the purple curb.

Pay attention when you enter the Fort Pitt tunnel, as the view of the city as you exit is one of the best!

You can also take the 28X ‘Airport Flyer’ bus line of Pittsburgh Regional Transit which drops off and picks up right outside of Carnegie Mellon University on Forbes Ave. near the University Center.

Rail

Pittsburgh is served by Amtrak at Union Station in downtown Pittsburgh for those wishing to travel via rail. Rail service in the U.S. is typically not as frequent or as fast as in Europe, but there are two train routes that serve Pittsburgh via Amtrak. These are Capitol Limited, which connects Pittsburgh with Chicago and Washington D.C., and the Pennsylvanian, which goes to New York, passing through Philadelphia. If you choose to fly into another city, you should also consider taking inter-city buses, as they are often faster and cheaper than Amtrak. Amtrak fares often get higher closer to the date of travel, so book in advance!

Getting from the Train Station to Carnegie Mellon / Hotels

You can get to Carnegie Mellon and local hotels via rideshare (Uber/Lyft) or the 61A, 61B, 61C, or 61D bus routes.

Intercity Bus

There are two major bus operators that connect Pittsburgh with other cities: Greyhound and Megabus. Both drop you off in downtown Pittsburgh. Megabus tends to have nicer coaches, often with better WiFi service.

Getting Around Pittsburgh

Once you are here, you can get around Pittsburgh via public transportation on Pittsburgh Regional Transit. Most public transit in Pittsburgh is via bus, with just a few underground rail lines downtown. If you would like to get around via transit, we recommend getting the Transit App for Apple or Android which allows you to see real-time bus information, plan your route, and purchase a digital bus pass.

For those looking to get around via scooter, Transit also allows you to rent a Spin Scooter. For those looking to get around via bicycle, you can rent a manual or electric assist bicycle using Pogoh.

You can also easily walk around CMU, Oakland, and Shadyside, which is mostly flat and has wide and maintained sidewalks. Note that Pittsburgh is actually quite hilly, so walking to other nearby neighborhoods may actually be quite a hike!

Conference Hotels

We have partnered with two hotels for those wishing to stay within walking distance or a short bus ride of Carnegie Mellon and the Conference venue.

Hilton Garden Inn Pittsburgh University Place ($149/night)

3454 Forbes Avenue,Pittsburgh, PA 15213 USA
+1 412-683-2040
21-minute walk to campus or 10-minute bus ride on a 61A,B,C,D or 67

Wyndham Pittsburgh University Center ($149/night)
100 Lytton Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15213
+1 412-682-6200
17-minute walk to campus or a 7-minute walk+3 minute bus ride on a 61A,B,C,D or 67

Discounted Lodging in CMU dorm

We have also partnered with Carnegie Mellon to provide access to dorm rooms in Resnik House for a heavily discounted nightly rate of:

$58.80/night for a double shared room

$72.00/night for a single room

$82.50/night for a double as a single room.

Note that the dorms will be used by other people at CMU during the event and that only linens are provided (there is no room service).
