Being a volunteer provides a unique opportunity to contribute to organising a conference as well as interacting closely with DIS contributors, attendees, and your peers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note that we will only be accepting in-person SVs for this year\u2019s conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Important Dates<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td>Student Volunteer Submission Site opens<\/td><td>21 February 2025<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Volunteer Application Deadline (Phase One)<\/td><td><s>10 April 2025<\/s><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Volunteer Acceptance Notification (Phase One)<\/td><td><s>14 April 2025<\/s><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>T-shirt Design Contest &amp; Volunteer Application Deadline (Phase Two)<\/td><td><s>8 May 2025<\/s><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Design Contest &amp; Volunteer Acceptance Notification (Phase Two)<\/td><td><s>12 May 2025<\/s><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>DIS 2025 Conference<\/td><td>5-9 of July 2025<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Deadlines specified as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Anywhere_on_Earth\">Anywhere on Earth<\/a>&nbsp;time<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Becoming a Volunteer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To register, you must be an undergraduate, masters, or doctoral student for at least one semester during the <strong>2024-2025 <\/strong>academic year. <strong>DIS 2025<\/strong> will take place in person in <strong>Madeira<\/strong>. No previous experience is required to apply, but we are looking for people who are reliable, enthusiastic, and friendly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is your own responsibility to obtain necessary travel visas if required. Please be aware that the visa application process should begin shortly after prospective notification of acceptance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please fill out the <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.office.com\/e\/N86CWzsLXx\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/forms.office.com\/e\/NHEbB4VEwD\">Call for Student Volunteers form<\/a> by the appropriate deadlines (see Important Dates above) to be considered.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What will I do as a Volunteer?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As an SV, you agree to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Work around 20 hours before, during, or after the conference.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attend orientation meeting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be available and perform assigned tasks on time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Arrive at the conference by Monday morning at the latest.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Benefits of Working as a Student Volunteer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Free t-shirt.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Free conference registration.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Opportunities to make new connections, both with your fellow students and with more senior researchers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Access to the student volunteer lounge during the conference.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Breakfast and lunch on conference days (ask during the meeting).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An exclusive SV welcoming dinner on Friday night, July 4, 2025.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">T-Shirt Design Contest<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This year, we call on students to design a t-shirt that our SVs will wear while on duty. If your design is selected, you are ensured one SV spot for DIS2025! As a winner, you can either take it or pass it on to a friend (as long as they are eligible to work as an SV).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are interested in participating in the t-shirt design competition, please submit your design, including both the front and back of the shirt, as an image or PDF to<strong> <\/strong><a href=\"mailto:sv@dis2025.acm.org\">sv@dis2025.acm.org<\/a><strong> <\/strong>with the subject line \u201c<strong>DIS2025 T-Shirt Design Contest<\/strong>\u201d by <strong>May 8, 2025<\/strong>. Please note that winning the contest only guarantees an SV spot; you will still need to perform tasks with the other student volunteers at the conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Design Details<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You may want to connect your design to the location (<strong>Madeira<\/strong>) or not, it doesn\u2019t matter as long as it\u2019s respectful of local culture, fun, interesting, and can stand out a bit in the crowd. Please send us front\/back designs, noting that we cannot print on sleeves or the extreme edges of the shirts. Designs should be ONE colour. In general, this means a black or white design on a coloured shirt. The imprint size should remain within an area 30 cm wide and 35 cm high on front or back (11.8\u2033 x 13.7\u2033). If your design is selected as a winning design, we will require the final version to be either in .eps or .ai format.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can submit several designs or variations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The deadline for submission is <strong>May 8, 2025<\/strong>.
