We have composed these frequently asked questions about registration, broken down into “Full” Registration Related and others.

Should you have any more questions/concerns, please feel free to reach out to us via registration@dis2026.acm.org

Submission Coverage & “Full” Registration Related

What qualifies as a “Full Registration” for my Paper or Pictorial?

For the purpose of archival publication in the ACM Digital Library, a “full registration” is defined strictly as a professional-grade registration. This includes:

ACM/SIGCHI Member Rate

Non-Member Rate

Please be advised that the following categories do not fulfill the unique registration requirement for archival submissions:

Student Registrations (Member or Non-Member)

One-Day Passes

Workshop-Only Registrations

Why this policy?

This policy ensures the financial sustainability of DIS and prevents the deficits that have impacted many specialized SIGCHI conferences in recent years. Student registration fees are set significantly below the actual cost of hosting an attendee; each student participant is essentially subsidized by approximately two full registrations. This requirement of a unique full registration per accepted full paper / pictorial ensures that DIS remains financially healthy this year, as well as future iterations.

Please note that this requirement is waived only if the submission is authored solely by students.

Can a student provide a “Full Registration”?

Yes. If your submission requires a full registration (archival papers and pictorials) and a professional co-author is unable to attend, a student co-author may register at a full/professional rate to satisfy the requirement. See below for how to do it.

How can a student provide a “full registration”?

Register at the Student Member rate as usual. During the registration process, please select the “Student Publication Coverage Top-Up” under “Additional Items” to pay the difference. This will satisfy the requirement for a unique full registration to cover an archival paper or pictorial.

What does “unique” mean?

Each accepted submission must be associated with its own distinct registration to ensure it is represented in the program and the proceedings.

For Archival Works (Papers and Pictorials): One person’s registration cannot cover multiple archival submissions. Each paper or pictorial must be covered by a unique full professional registration. If the registering author is a student, they must include the “Student Publication Coverage Top-Up” to satisfy this.

For Non-Archival Works (PWiP, Interactivity, Workshops, etc.): Each work must be associated with a unique registration, but this can be at either the student or professional rate (no top-up required).

Example: If your team has one Paper and one PWiP accepted, two separate individuals must register. The individual covering the Paper must provide a full professional registration (or student + top-up), while the individual covering the PWiP can use a standard student or professional registration.

Others

Am I eligible to register from a country listed in Category H or I?

The SIGCHI Executive Committee explicitly defines the eligibility criteria for discounted registration under its Global Equity model. From ACM CSCW registration guidance: “These discounts are applied at the end of the registration process based on the country in which the registrant resides.”

Therefore, selecting a Category H or I discount while simultaneously registering with an institutional affiliation in a higher-income ACM category (for example, Hong Kong SAR, the UK, or similar) creates a factual inconsistency that organisers may review manually.

I am registering from a country listed in Category H or I, but the discount isn’t reflected on the payment page?

The discount code will appear at the top of the payment page after your country is identified. Please manually copy and paste it into the “Invitation Code” field to apply it.

Can I present remotely?

ACM DIS strongly values the in-person conference experience and the community exchange it fosters. In principle, and for a range of practical reasons, we are not able to offer remote presentation options.

DIS 2026 is an in-person event, and an in-person presentation is a requirement for archival publication. Following standard SIGCHI “no-show” guidelines, if a paper or pictorial is not presented on-site by an author (or an approved proxy), it will be flagged as a “no-show” and subject to removal from the final proceedings in the ACM Digital Library.

Remote presentation or video alternatives will only be considered under truly exceptional circumstances, specifically documented visa denial. In such cases, authors must provide an official letter of rejection from the embassy or consulate to the General Chairs for review. For all other logistical or travel constraints, at least one author must attend in person to ensure the work remains in the permanent record..

What if I have a child?

In general, if the child is below 12, they will not be required to purchase an additional registration ticket. Please let us know the details (name, parent registration number, age), so we can add the child to our attendee list.

Frequently Asked Questions about DIS 2026 Registration Hi all, the registration has opened, and the early registration deadline is approaching.
